We want you to know exactly how SocialMate works.
How a download works
- You paste a link to a public post.
- We send that link to our processing service, which reads the public post and lists the files the platform provides.
- We show you every available quality with its real resolution and size. We never upscale videos.
- When you press Download, the file is sent to you through our server so it gets a proper file name. For YouTube HD with sound, our server combines the picture and sound tracks into one MP4 without re-encoding.
What we keep
- Link results are cached for about 20 minutes, then removed.
- Download links expire within 2 hours. Temporary HD files we create are deleted automatically within 3 hours.
- We keep a hashed IP address for up to 1 hour only to apply fair usage limits.
- We do not keep a history of what you download and we do not require an account.
Usage limits
To keep the service free and fast, each visitor can make a limited number of requests per hour. Long videos may only be available in lower quality.
Copyright requests
We respond to valid copyright notices and block reported links from being processed. See our Copyright policy.
How SocialMate is funded
SocialMate is free for users. We may show advertising to cover hosting and processing costs. Ads never affect which files you can download.
