How to Repurpose Your Videos Across TikTok, Reels and Shorts
Filming new content for every platform is exhausting. Most successful creators and brands film once and publish everywhere. Here is a simple workflow.
1. Keep a clean master file
Always keep the original export from your phone or editor. If you only have the version you posted, download your own video from the platform. On TikTok choose the version without the watermark, because Instagram and YouTube may show reposted videos with another platform’s watermark to fewer people.
2. Use a vertical 9:16 format
TikTok, Reels and Shorts all use vertical 1080 x 1920 video. Keep important text and faces in the centre, away from the edges where buttons and captions appear.
3. Adjust the length
- TikTok: short hooks win, but longer videos are allowed.
- Instagram Reels: keep it tight with a strong first 3 seconds.
- YouTube Shorts: up to 3 minutes for Shorts on most accounts, but shorter usually performs better.
4. Rewrite captions and hashtags
Each audience is different. Rewrite the caption in the platform’s style and use 3 to 5 relevant hashtags rather than copying the same block everywhere.
5. Replace platform sounds
Trending sounds from one app are not always available in another. Use the MP3 of your own original audio, or pick a licensed sound inside each app.
6. Post at the right time
Check each platform’s insights to see when your followers are active, and space posts a few hours apart.
7. Track what works
Compare views, watch time and follows across platforms. Double down on the format that performs best and adapt the rest.
