How to Download X (Twitter) Videos and GIFs

X, formerly Twitter, is full of breaking news clips, sports highlights and funny GIFs, but there is no download button. Here is how to save a video or GIF from any public post.

Step 1: Copy the post link

Tap the Share icon under the post and choose Copy link. On the website, open the post and copy the address. Both x.com and twitter.com links work.

Step 2: Paste the link

Open the SocialMate X downloader, paste the link and press Download.

Step 3: Choose a resolution

X usually stores several versions of each video. Pick the highest resolution for the best picture or a smaller one to save data.

Saving GIFs

X does not store GIFs as GIF files. It converts them into short MP4 videos. That is why you get an MP4 when you download a GIF. It plays everywhere and looks better than a real GIF. If you need a .gif file for a website, convert the MP4 with any GIF maker.

Posts with several videos

If a post contains more than one video, each one is listed separately so you can choose which to save.

Why a video might not download

  • The account is protected (private).
  • The post was deleted.
  • The video is a live broadcast that has not finished.
  • The media is age-restricted or limited in your region.

Be fair to the original poster

Clips from news organisations, sports leagues and creators are protected by copyright. Save them for personal viewing, and share the original post rather than re-uploading.

Ready to try it? Open the X (Twitter) downloader, paste your link and choose the quality you want.
